Mountain Vista Medical Center Celebrates 11th Annual Heart Healthy Day on Saturday, Feb. 24

WHY: According to the latest American Heart Association statistics, cardiovascular disease continues to be the leading global cause of death. More than 17.3 million people die from heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases around the world each year. This number is expected to grow to more than 23.6 million deaths by 2030.

In Arizona, 1-in-4 deaths are directly caused by heart disease or stroke, echoing the national statistics, claiming more lives than all forms of cancer combined. A third of these deaths are preventable through increased understanding of risk factors and simple lifestyle changes.

WHAT: February is the month of love, so Mountain Vista Medical Center is helping Arizonans give some love to their tickers during its 11th annual FREE Heart Healthy Day, on Saturday, Feb. 24, from
8 a.m. to 11 a.m., at 1301 S. Crismon Road in Mesa.

Mountain Vista Medical Center’s Heart Healthy Day has become a signature community event that raises awareness and empowers individuals to take charge of their heart health through a series of free screenings, demonstrations, and physician-led seminars.

This year, the event will feature a 26-foot-long walk-through heart exhibit. Participants will be able to see the heart from the inside and see a model of how blood flows while learning about heart disease and heart defects.

Mountain Vista Medical Center will be offering several heart-smart screenings to help people gauge their current health status and learn how to treat or prevent potentially life-altering diseases. These screenings include: glucose and cholesterol checks, blood pressure checks, body mass index checks, stroke and cardiac risk assessments, and more.

The event also will provide a variety of useful, easy-to-understand health information, with free seminars about important health topics, including heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and weight management.
